We let AI ask three questions to our director Hajan Jabar for this project.

What inspired this project?
The project idea originated from UR itself, with the aim of enticing children to read more through the creation of film trailers for books. UR had previously executed a similar project tailored for hearing children. We were tasked with the mission of reinterpreting these films/books into sign language, extending the accessibility of the content to a broader audience.

How did sign language influence the creative direction of the project?
Since hearing individuals can rely on sound as a tool, unlike us, we had to invest more effort and energy into the visual aspects. We needed to approach it from a completely different perspective, which posed its own set of challenges. Imagining precisely how it would turn out was difficult initially. However, as we progressed through the project and during post-production, we managed to discover a style that resonated with the essence of the books. Ultimately, that's what it all boils down to.

Is there any emotional connection for you as a director to these projects?
Yes, I am hearing impaired myself and grew up in the deaf community. I attended a deaf school both in primary and high school, so sign language is a significant part of my life. In the past year, I've had the luxury of creating content with sign language at the forefront, and it has been very rewarding for me. I've longed to reconnect with sign language in my daily life, so this project has meant a lot to me in that sense.
