LELLOW - “VÅGAR INTE SÄGA NÅGOT”

When Lellow first showed us the song and told us that it’s about getting out of a destructive relationship, 100 thoughts flew around in my head.
How do you collect all of your experiences into one video, into 3 minutes?

Got to be creative from scratch with the keywords: destructive relationships.
I started thinking about different type of destructive relationships, the most common (talked mostly about) is a toxic relationship between couples, but a friend or a parent can be as toxic. So I started on a story based on the lyrics, let my head fly around and finally I had it.

I questioned myself and asked “how does one even get in to a toxic relationship to start with?”
The abusers mostly have their reasons and most of them keep acting the way they’ve been taught based on their environment where they grew up.
I wanted to start the video by showing where the abusive mentality can come from and continue the story of when the abused becomes the abuser.

The important part of the video for me as a director is lifting the issue of women in toxic and dangerous relationships,
it’s a worldwide issue and no one is treating it like pandemic.

This video lays close to our hearts at MERAKI STHLM since we started out as activists, this is a huge part of us and in what we believe in.

The production itself has been one of the most sensitive ones for us, we’ve been crying before, on set and post production, again and again.
It was amazing to be on set and see how deaf and hearing people were communicating with open hearts, seeing my mom on set and so on,
so many parts of me on set for the same video.

I’m so thankful for this project and hopefully it will make a change for the better in this cause, even if it’s a small change.

Love
